First African American Female Mayor Elected
San Diego, CA Epsilon Xi Omega Chapter member, Soror Racquel Vasquez, was sworn in as mayor of the City of Lemon Grove on December 20, 2016. Soror Raquel is the first African American female to be elected mayor of any city within San Diego County, the fifth most populous county in the United States with over 3.2 million residents. The ceremony was attended by EX0 Basileus Soror Donna L. Cook and a host of EXO members.
Soror Racquel succeeds the previous mayor who served for 20 years. Soror Raquel ran a strategic campaign and won the hotly contested three-person race. Soror Racquel earned a Bachelor of Arts in Radio, TV, Film Management from California State University, Northridge and is a public relations professional. She was first elected to the Lemon Grove City Council in 2012. She serves on a number of local boards and commissions and also finds time to be an active member of Epsilon Xi Omega Chapter.
