The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated Epsilon Xi Omega Chapter Presents 12 Ebony Pearls

A natural black pearl is more expensive and mysterious than its classic off-white pearl counterpart.  And for good reason: Although manufacturers can dye pearls black, it takes extremely rare conditions to form pearls that have that dark, exotic, iridescent glow.  In light of this uncommon occurrence, the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated presented 12 Ebony Pearls to the community of San Diego after completing the extremely refined 63rd Annual Debutante Leadership AKAdemy.   

Ms. Beverly Chandler served as the General Chairman and was assisted by the General Co-Chairman, Dr. Shirley Wilson.  Under the Chapter leadership of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated president, Dr. Donna L. Cook, the 5-month long program served to develop scholars in leadership skills building, self-awareness and confidence, community service, career exploration, and college competitiveness.   On Saturday, April 14th, with more than 400 guests, at the culminating formal affair of the Debutante Ball, 12 Ebony Pearls were presented to the community of San Diego in celebration with a host of family, friends, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Mentors.  

This season’s 12 Debutante Ebony Pearls included:  Amani Bradley, Shaylee Clark, Jordan Finley, Mychal Johnson, Briajah Payton, Nakaylah Roberts, Kennedy Stance, Kyndall Stance, Abriana Thomas, Raven Vasquez, Tariah Wells, and Jaelynn Woods.  They were admitted to the AKAdemy based upon high academic achievement and a history of committed service to their communities.This cadre of scholars represented schools from around the entire county of San Diego.  Further, the AKAdemy assisted in preparing a cadre of 14 debonair young men who received professional mentorship and leadership training that enhanced their journey to success. The guest presenters were Mr. Henry Coker, former Public Defender, and Dr. Emma Turner.It is the hope that the Alpha Kappa Kappa Leadership AKAdemy will continue to provide an exceptional, life-changing experience for future generations to come.
